When Good Naps Go Bad

Goodbye mid-day oasis of serenity. Goodbye folding clothes without the helpful hands of a two-year-old, goodbye my private bathroom break, and goodbye to eating a meal uninterrupted.

At only 27-months, it seems the younger of my twin daughters has given up the nap for good. I've tried bed time stories, mid-day baths, and letting her "rest" instead of napping.

Rest is for sissies it seems.

"Done, done, done," she repeats after less than five minutes in her crib. And so it seems she is right. For us, nap time is done.

Nooooooo! Say it isn't so! My 28-monthers have been struggling against the nap lately, but I haven't given up yet. I need it too desperately.

Hi! I found your blog through NaBlopomo. Regarding your list of "30 things that might surprise you", I hope you write about #14 this month....I'm intrigued!

I also paid for my entire way through college and to a PhD (psychology), in fact, I'm still paying for it and will be for several more years (I'm 43). I'm proud, but would never do it over again.

Take care, and good luck getting those little ones to sleep. Don't worry, someday you'll be trying to drag them out of bed before
noon :-)

I have never been able to count on naptime. They both do still take one. William almost every day, Mary Margaret might take one every other day. But not usually at the same time, and certainly not at the same time every day. Anywhere between 11 am and 5 pm. And the nap or lack thereof doesn't affect their nighttime sleep (or rather non-sleep) schedule. My kids just don't seem to need much sleep. I, on the other hand, have now been sleep-deprived for over 4 years, and I am waiting for the psychotic episode any day now.

I am sorry. I remember those little breaks were so very nice. My kids weren't great nappers either, but when they did it felt like a gift!
